Important IRS Tax Notice
February 17, 2012 - This past weekend the IRS sent out a notice to industry partners that it was experiencing problems with some of their computer systems which has caused some refund delays. The full extent of these problems is now known. As it has all week, the IRS continues to display a notice on its WHERE'S MY REFUND service that WHERE'S MY REFUND is NOT showing the status of some taxpayer refunds even though the returns were actually filed and accepted by the IRS. This IRS problem is causing taxpayers to think their return was NOT filed even though it was filed.
Most of the tax returns filed between 2/2 through 2/4 have been effected by this latest nationwide computer problem at the IRS. Returns filed on 2/5 or later were affected to a lesser extent. Please note that these problems at the IRS are nationwide, affecting all preparers across the nation, as well as millions of taxpayers. According to some estimates up to half of the taxpayers who filed between 2/2 and 2/4 and have not received their refund are now receiving a message on the IRS Where's My Refund site that the IRS has no information on the tax return, even though the return was in fact filed. Taxpayers who are effected by this IRS problem may call the IRS at 800-829-1040 for further assistance. The IRS is working to resolve this problem and issue the affected refunds.
